Classes Demon Hunter

Demon Hunter

Asyncio 26 September 2026 92

The Demon Hunter is the class that first appeared in Legion, and it has only two specializations: damage and tank. It wears leather, runs on Fury and souls, and is noticeably more mobile than every other melee fighter.

How to create one

  • You need a character of level 70 or higher on the same realm where you want to create your Demon Hunter — the requirement is tied to the specific realm, not to the account. One such character per realm.
  • Races: night elf for the Alliance and blood elf for the Horde.
  • You start at level 98 in Mardum, the Shattered Abyss; after Mardum and the Vault of the Wardens the character steps straight into Legion content.
  • Double Jump and Glide are not talents but baseline abilities: with them you can drop from a height without taking damage and cut corners where everyone else has to run around.

The stat priority is a guideline for 7.3.5. The exact order depends on your talents and legendaries, so check the final result with a sim.

Havoc

  • The easiest way into melee: a short Fury-based rotation plus constant dashes and turns.
  • Key buttons: Chaos Strike as your main spender, Blade Dance on two or more targets, Eye Beam on a pack.
  • Watch your Fury: capping the resource is lost damage, and Fel Rush is used both as a movement burst and as part of the rotation.
  • Metamorphosis is your main burst: you leap at the target, stun everything around it and get a window of increased damage.

Vengeance

  • A tank built on Soul Fragments: you collect them from enemies and convert them into healing and damage reduction.
  • Key buttons: Shear builds Fury and souls, Soul Cleave spends them on damage and self-healing, Demon Spikes is held for physical damage.
  • Watch the fragments under your feet: they are not picked up on their own from range, you have to walk over to them.
  • Fiery Brand is your main cooldown against big hits, while Sigil of Flame and Immolation Aura pull the pack together.

Legendary items

  • Anger of the Half-Giants — a ring for Havoc: Demon's Bite (or Demon Blades) generates an extra 1 to 14 Fury.
  • Delusions of Grandeur — shoulders for Havoc: for every 30 Fury spent the cooldown of Metamorphosis is reduced by 1 second.
  • Chaos Theory — a cloak for Havoc: Blade Dance has a 10% chance to grant Chaos Blades for 6 seconds.
  • Spirit of the Darkness Flame — gloves for Vengeance: Fiery Brand heals you for 100% of the damage it deals, and Sigil of Flame empowers your next brand for each enemy it hits.
  • Kirel Narak — boots for Vengeance: the instant damage from Immolation Aura takes 2 seconds off the cooldown of Fiery Brand for each enemy it hits.

Until your spec legendaries drop, wear the all-purpose Prydaz, Xavaric's Magnum Opus and Sephuz's Secret — they suit both specs.

Class Order Hall

The Demon Hunter order hall is The Fel Hammer, a Legion ship in Mardum; you get there right after the starting campaign. It holds the artifact forge, the champion mission table, Artifact Power turn-in and a teleport to the Broken Isles.

Tips for beginners

  • Put Disrupt and Vengeful Retreat on convenient keys: in Mythic+, interrupts and getting out of mechanics are valued higher than a few extra percent of damage.
  • Darkness is a rare group-wide avoidance cooldown — it saves the whole party during heavy phases, not just you.
  • Spectral Sight shows enemies through walls — handy for spotting patrols in keystone runs.
