Professions

Cooking, fishing and archaeology

Asyncio 26 September 2026 91

Legion's three "secondary" professions. Cooking is genuinely needed by a raider, fishing gives you an artifact fishing pole and mounts, and archaeology is for collectors.

Cooking

Food gives a secondary stat, and at a raid gathering it is expected from everybody. The recipes come in three ranks here too: rank 3 cooks more portions out of the same ingredients.

  • Legion's staple ingredients are meat (lean shank, fatty bearsteak, big gamy ribs, wildfowl egg) and fish from the Broken Isles.
  • The seasonings are flaked sea salt and dalapeno peppers, bought from vendors.
  • Personal food: "The Hungry Magister", "Azshari Salad", "Salt & Pepper Shank" and other dishes for whichever stat you need.
  • The feast is the Hearty Feast: one table feeds the whole group or raid. That is the thing you put down before a boss.

The fishing + cooking pairing pays for itself straight away: you catch it yourself, you cook it yourself, and the rest goes to the auction house.

Fishing

The fishing artifact is called the Underlight Angler. It gives +15 fishing skill and the ability to teleport instantly to a school of fish within 100 yards.

How to get it:

  1. Level up Legion fishing and fish in the Broken Isles.
  2. Fish up a luminous pearl — it gives you the quest "Fish Frenzy".
  3. Work through the chain and get the fishing pole.

The pole has its own 10 traits with ranks 1–3, levelled with artifact power for every rare fish you catch. The full tree means several thousand rare fish, so it is a long story to work at in the background.

A separate matter is Conjurer Margoss on the little island north-west of Dalaran. Drowned mana is fished up there: 1 piece gives 50 reputation, and 10 pieces at a time give 500. That mana also buys baits, bobbers, pets and a mount from him.

Archaeology

Legion has three branches of digging: Highborne, demonic and Highmountain tauren. The dig sites are scattered across the Broken Isles.

The system here is not about grinding: the special quests for rare finds are handed out once every two weeks, so you will not manage to "dig up everything" quickly.

What people do it for:

  • the Spirit of Eche'ro mount — a ghostly moose, the branch's main reward;
  • an heirloom polearm and a few toys;
  • achievements and story quests that come out of the finds.

Archaeology in Legion is a profession for collectors. It gives you nothing for raiding or Mythic+; if you are chasing character power, level cooking and skip the digging.

In short

  • Cooking is compulsory: personal food plus a feast for the raid.
  • Fishing gives you the Underlight Angler, reputation with Margoss and ingredients for the kitchen.
  • Archaeology is only for the moose, the toys and the achievements.
