Legendaries in Legion are not a quest and not a craft — they are a random drop with built-in bad luck protection. On 7.3.5 the system has been softened a great deal: you can more or less honestly buy the piece you need.
How they drop
- The chance is tied to "legendary" activities: dungeon and raid bosses, world bosses, emissary caches, the weekly Mythic+ chest, PvP, rare mobs and treasures.
- Bad luck protection is in play: the more activities you have gone through since your last legendary, the higher the chance of the next one. The counter is separate for every specialization.
- A legendary drops for your current loot specialization — check it before you start farming.
How many you can wear
- You can wear two legendaries at once.
- The exception is the trinket Aman'Thul's Vision: it does not count toward the limit, so with it you end up with three.
Item level and upgrading
- Legendaries drop at item level 970.
- They upgrade to 1000 with Awoken Titan Essence.
- It is sold by Arcanomancer Vridiel in the Dalaran above the Broken Isles (the blacksmiths' building, roughly 45, 28) for 300 Wakening Essence.
- Every legendary has to be upgraded separately.
Buying the legendary you want
The same Vridiel also sells Purified Titan Essence for 1000 Wakening Essence. It creates a legendary for your current loot specialization, drawing first from the ones you do not have yet.
This will not give you quest, raid or crafted legendaries — Aman'Thul's Vision, for instance. If you have already collected every legendary for your class, you get an account-bound token for another class instead.
| Where to get Wakening Essence | Roughly |
|---|---|
| First Heroic dungeon of the day | 30 |
| Emissary cache | 24–42 |
| Antorus bosses, any difficulty | 18–36 |
| Weekly Mythic+ chest | 120 |
| First random battleground win | 30 |
In 7.3.5 essence comes in six times faster than it used to. One week of active play covers both an upgrade and a good start on a targeted purchase — there is no point saving it "for later".
The most useful ones
- Aman'Thul's Vision — drops from Argus the Unmaker in Antorus. Its value is that it gives you a third legendary slot.
- Insignia of the Grand Army — an item level 1000 ring for killing Argus, it strengthens the Light and Shadow powers from the Netherlight Crucible by 50%.
- Sephuz's Secret — a universal ring for every class.
- Prydaz, Xavaric's Magnum Opus — a neckpiece with a shield worth 25% of your health, a lifesaver out in the world and on progression.
- Cinidaria, the Symbiote — a belt for rogues, monks, druids and demon hunters: a lot of damage against targets above 90% health.
Everything else is strictly spec by spec. Check the best list for your own spec in the class guide: for half the classes a legendary changes the rotation completely.
